Technical SEO checks in wp-admin: titles, descriptions, indexing, canonicals, structured data, broken links, robots.txt, sitemaps, AI crawlers.

== Description ==

JustWhat SEO Audit reads your pages the way a search engine does and lists what keeps them from ranking or showing well, with how to fix each problem on WordPress.

**How it works.** Pick the pages to check under SEO Audit → Scan. Your browser fetches each page signed out (what a search engine gets), reads it and checks it, then reads robots.txt, your sitemap and llms.txt and checks the internal links it found. Nothing is sent to any outside service, and no server-side browser or loopback request is needed, so it works on any host.

**What it checks**

* Indexing: "Discourage search engines" left on, noindex in the page or in the X-Robots-Tag header, pages robots.txt blocks for Google, error and redirecting pages.
* Titles and meta descriptions: missing, too long, too short, or the same on several pages.
* Canonical addresses: missing, duplicated, pointing at another page or another site, or broken. Language versions (hreflang) that are incomplete or repeated.
* Content: missing or multiple H1s, very thin pages, missing page language or viewport, images without alt text or with a file name as alt text.
* Structured data: pages with no JSON-LD, and JSON-LD that can't be read; the schema types each page declares.
* Social previews: Open Graph title, description and image, and X (Twitter) cards.
* Links: broken links to your own pages, links that only work with JavaScript, insecure (http) files on secure pages.
* Whole site: plain permalinks, a robots.txt that blocks the whole site or AI search assistants (ChatGPT search, Claude, Perplexity, Apple), a missing XML sitemap, a missing llms.txt, the default tagline and a missing site icon.

**What you get**

* An SEO score, whole-site problems first, then the issues on pages and the pages that need the most work.
* An Issues screen with every problem, the page it is on and how to fix it, with an Edit link to the page.
* A Pages screen with what search engines see on each page: title and description with their length, H1, word count, indexability and structured data.
* "Check SEO" under every published post and page in the admin lists, and a CSV export.
* Built-in help (SEO Audit → Help, plus a Help tab on every screen).
* No limits on how often you scan: up to 500 pages (Select all) and 2,000 internal links per scan, from your browser. You choose how many scans keep their full results (Settings → Scans to keep); older scans keep their score.

**Works with your SEO plugin.** Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress and The SEO Framework write your titles and tags; this plugin checks what your pages actually say, and its fixes point to the right place in your SEO plugin when one is active. It changes nothing on your site by itself.

= Pro =

[JustWhat SEO Audit Pro](https://wordpress.justwhat.net/seo-audit/) is a separate add-on for sites that need SEO checked continuously: scheduled full-site scans run on our servers (every page, links to other sites included, headless front ends too), fix tickets, history and trends, email alerts and a client report. Nothing in this plugin is locked or time-limited.

= The command-line scanner =

The same checks (and more: Lighthouse performance, asset integrity, script inventory, AI agent readiness) run from the command line, in CI or on any site, with the free and open-source [`@pbpyrojust/universal-seo-audit`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@pbpyrojust/universal-seo-audit) package.

== Installation ==

1. Install and activate the plugin.
2. Go to SEO Audit → Scan, choose pages and select Start scan. Keep the tab open until it finishes (about a second per page).
3. Review the results under SEO Audit → Dashboard, Issues and Pages.

Settings (SEO Audit → Settings): which content types appear in the scan list, and whether internal links are checked.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Do I need another SEO plugin? =

To fix some of what this finds, usually yes: WordPress writes a title, a canonical and the robots tag on its own, but no meta description, social tags or structured data. This plugin doesn't add tags; it tells you what is missing and where to fix it.

= Does it slow down my site? =

No. Nothing runs for visitors. Scans run only when an administrator starts one, in their own browser.

= Why are some pages "couldn't be checked"? =

A security plugin or firewall may block many requests in a row, or a page took longer than 30 seconds. Scan fewer pages at a time, or allow your own address in the firewall.

= Does it see content added by JavaScript? =

No. It reads the HTML your server sends, before scripts run, which is what search engines see first. Text or tags a script adds later aren't checked.

= Does it check links to other websites? =

No. Browsers don't let a page check other sites' addresses, and the plugin contacts no outside service. Links to your own pages are checked.

= Is any data sent anywhere? =

No. The scan reads pages of your own site from your browser, and the results are saved in your WordPress database.
