Getting started

From install to your first results in about five minutes.

1. Install

  1. Download the free plugin (or search for "Universal Accessibility Audit" under Plugins → Add New once it's on WordPress.org).
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip and select Install Now, then Activate.

Needs WordPress 6.4 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer. Only administrators see the Accessibility menu.

2. Choose what to check

Under Accessibility → Settings, choose the standard (WCAG 2.2 AA is the default and what most laws point to) and which content types appear in the scan list.

3. Run a scan

  1. Go to Accessibility → Scan. The home page and your most recently changed pages are selected (up to 25 in the free plugin).
  2. Select Start scan and keep the tab open. Each page opens out of sight and is checked in a few seconds.
  3. When it finishes you land on the dashboard.

To check a single page, use the Check accessibility link under it in Posts or Pages.

If a page can't be scanned

The scan opens your pages inside wp-admin. A security plugin or host that forbids your site from framing itself (a Content-Security-Policy: frame-ancestors 'none' or X-Frame-Options: DENY header) blocks that; allow your own site ('self' / SAMEORIGIN). Pages that take longer than 45 seconds to load are skipped and listed.
